Hon. Matthew Kwarpo, member representing Mangu South in the Plateau State House of Assembly has expressed worries over what he described as a calculated plan by armed Fulani militia to sack and take over natives’ communities in Mangu local government area.
The Lawmaker calls on the State Government to swiftly take proactive measures and commence resettlement of the villagers to stop invaders from further occupying territories that belong to the natives.
In a motion under matter of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Matthew Kwarpo, during plenary in Jos, he urged the government to put in place urgent reconstruction efforts to restore inhabitants back in their homes.
While moving the motion, the Lawmaker mentioned Manden, Tim, Midihin, Jilem Koppang, Jilem, Jiblang, Shingles among other villages in Chakfem District of Mangu local government area as the recently sacked communities.
“This series of mayhem was unleashed in the late hours of Monday the 18th of August, 2025. The brutal attack has resulted in multiple casualties and widespread destructions.
“The situation which escalated within a short period of time, led to unqualified level of destruction and displacements. While just last week, villages of Manja, Muko and Kabung were sacked in the same fashion with some lives lost, while many citizens are still missing.
“This recurring decimal is a well calculated plan with the aim of creating fear in the inhabitants of these communities with the hope of capturing the entire villages.” Added the Lawmaker.
In the motion, the Lawmaker stressed the need to convene a critical stakeholder meeting to address the implications of the calculated genocide and appealed to security forces to always deploy proactive measures in preventing or mitigating unnecessary attacks before they occur.
“That the incident underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts to address underlying issues and prevent further escalation of violence in the area. Authorities must be urged to swiftly intervene and prevent senseless attacks on our communities.”
Part of his prayers was that the state government through State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and spirited individuals should come to the aid of affected communities with relief materials.
“To ensure food security in the coming months and year, government must facilitate measures to ensure farmers promptly return back to reclaim and recultivate farms that were destroyed.”
