Light Bearer Newspaper Honours Journalists Killed in Line of Duty

The Light Bearer Newspaper has honoured its late Deputy Editor, Nathan Dabak and reporter, late Gyang Bwede who were brutally killed in the line of duty.

The event took place during a special Lecture on the legacy of the paper’s founder, Lucy Kumm and Fundraising organized by the organization for the recapitalization of the newspaper, held at the COCIN Headquarters Church in Jos.

Late Mr. Nathan Dabak and late Mr. Gyang Bwede were brutally murdered in cold blood while their camera, recorders and other belongings carted away by their killers, suspected to be Islamic jihadists in Jos, Plateau State capital.

The duo met there death while on an assignment to interview a personality in 2010 during a religious crisis in Jos.

Mutilated corpses of the duo were later discovered at a riverside in the muslim dominated Nasarawa area of Jos, where the suspected jihadists dumped them a day after being declared missing by the Church newspaper outfit.

Presenting the post humous award 14 years after to her late colleagues, Editor of the Light Bearer Newspaper, Mrs. Elizabeth Salami who worked directly with them was emotionally moved as she recalled the days of their active service in the organization.

She said the late Nathan Dabak and late Gyang Bwede, Deputy Editor and a reporter were colleagues they cherished so much but they paid the supreme price while on active service.

Father of the late Nathan Dabak received the post humous award for his son while the only child of late Gyang Bwede received that of his father.

Guests at the occasion lauded the management of Light Bearer Newspaper for the recognition and honour given to their late colleagues.

There were other awards to some deserving individuals and RCCs during the occasion.
