The Vice Chancellor of Karl Kumm University (KKU), Vom, Plateau State, Prof. Yakubu Yerima Jabil, has praised the National Universities Commission (NUC) for its supervisory role in promoting academic excellence, intellectual growth and research-driven development in Nigerian universities.
Prof. Jabil stated this when he received a Resource Verification Team from the NUC at his office during the Commission’s verification exercise for the university’s Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) programmes.
The Vice Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded by the university since its last accreditation exercise, attributing the achievements to the institution’s pragmatic approach to maintaining high academic standards.
In a statement signed by the Protocol and Information Officer to the Vice Chancellor, Bulus Gambo, Prof. Jabil said the university places a high premium on equipping students with practical skills through contemporary dual vocational and technical education, alongside academic pursuits.
He described the SIWES programme as an important component of university education, stressing that it provides students with opportunities to acquire practical and technical experience in their respective fields.
According to him, exposing undergraduates to real-world work environments would complement classroom instruction and enhance their preparedness for employment and professional responsibilities after graduation.
Earlier, the leader of the NUC verification team, Mrs. Anthonia Bawa, commended the Vice Chancellor and his management team for their commitment, doggedness and effective leadership.
She noted that the management’s efforts had continued to contribute to the progress and achievements recorded by Karl Kumm University.
Mrs. Bawa thanked the university for the warm reception accorded the team and expressed optimism that the exercise would further strengthen the relationship between the institution and the NUC.
She also conveyed the warm regards of the Executive Secretary of the Commission to the Vice Chancellor, management and staff of the university.
During the visit, the Director of SIWES, Prof. Stephen Songden, and the Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Longshak Dantong, led members of the verification team to various facilities and areas of academic interest as part of the exercise.
The verification exercise is expected to further assess the university’s SIWES structures and its efforts towards providing students with practical experience in their chosen fields.
