Plateau Speaker inaugurates One More Assembly Member Elect

The speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan has inaugurated Hon. Naanlong Daniel, Member representing Mikang State Constituency in the 10th Assembly.

Naanlong Daniel was inaugurated during Tuesday plenary of the Assembly at Old Government House, Rayfield Jos.

He was among the 7 remaining members elect under the platform of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), that were yet to be inaugurated since after the appeal court judgement that sacked all the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Lawmakers from Plateau State in November last year.

Shortly after the inauguration, Hon. Naanlong Daniel who is now a third term and the most ranking member in the 10th Assembly, pledged to use his wealth of experienced to contribute meaningfully to the development of his constituency and the state at large.

He said “For me there is time for everything, God has set everything under the sun, time when we are suppose to be in and when we are suppose to be out. God has deem it fit that I should come in such a time like this and I know much is expected of me.

“I know that House of Assembly is not a new place for me, is a familiar terrain and I know that I’m well prepared to do that which I’m ought to do, particularly for the unity, stability and for the development of Plateau State.” He added.

During the plenary, the House also extended the time for Mrs. Christy Elisha Davou as acting Auditor General of the State for another Six months as requested by the Executive Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang.

The Speaker had earlier read to the members, a communication from the governor, seeking the extension of time for the acting Auditor General for another Six months after the expiration of her initial Six months appointment on acting capacity.

According to the letter, the extension of Mrs. Christy Davou’s time whose first Six months of acting elapsed on the 30th June, would enable the Plateau State Civil Service Commission to complete the processes for the appointment of a substantive Auditor General for the State.

The Speaker Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan also announced a communication from the National Assembly to the State Assembly on the need to constitute a standing committee on “Food, Nutrition and Security”.

An executive bill for a law to establish the Plateau State Attorney General Office, by the House Majority Leader, Joseph Bukar passed second reading during the plenary.

Members took turn to speak on the bill where member representing Langtang North – North, Abel Nanchak observed some clause on the power vested on the Attorney General to summon any public servant, according to him, such powers is vested only on the hallow chamber of the Assembly.

Also, member representing Langtang North Central, Nanbol Listick, suggested that the name of the bill or office of the Attorney General should tally with what is obtained in the constitution of the federation.
