Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says Nigerian Police must be reformed to be more civil in carrying out their duties.
The 2019 PDP Presidential candidate said disbanding the Police Special Anti Robbery Squad by the IGP is “in order”.
Atiku said after a private visit to former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida in Minna, Niger state that SARS operatives have diverted from their core objectives by harrassing innocent citizens.
“The eventual banning of the unit by IGP Mohammed Adamu is in order. The Police, especially SARS, is no longer operating based on its mandate of securing the country and its citizens.
“It is unfortunate that men of the Police who were trained to protect the citizens have now turned their guns against unarmed citizens,” said Atiku.
The former Vice President had issued a press statement backing calls for the scrapping of SARS.
