The Incorporated Trustees of the Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, have condoled with the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, and the entire citizens of the state over what they described as senseless attacks on innocent communities in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas of the state.
In a statement signed by Chairman of the COCIN Incorporated Trustees, Rev Prof Soja Bewarang, they also extended their condolence to the victims’ families, traditional rulers and the Government of Plateau over the unfortunate incidents.
They said the killings are becoming too many and have continued for twenty four years now. Therefore, they warned beneficiaries of the attacks to desist henceforth as human life is sacred and no one has the right to take another person’s life, depriving them the right to live.
The Trustees observed with concern that people are no longer secured in their homes, villages and even in the cities.
“There is no trust, if only we can be just and fair to one another, Plateau will be greater than what it is today; we need justice and fairness to have a nation where no man is oppressed irrespective of tribe, religion or political differences.
“We commend Governor Caleb Mutfwang for every effort taken and measures enforced to maintain calmness and ensure that peace is restored.” They added.
The Trustees equally commended the Federal government and security agencies for their proactiveness towards stemming the attacks from spreading beyond control; and called on the people to rise, unite and think outside the box to overcome the challenges.
“Our help cannot come from outside ourselves. Nobody from outside can solve our 24 years problems just as the Hausa adage states, “Wanda yana cikin daki kadai ya san inda ruwa na yoyo.” Meaning, only those that live in a house, know where it leaks. The solution of the problems are with us.
They recalled that the former President Goodluck Jonathan once said, “In Nigeria, there is no enemy to fight. We are all members of the same country. All we can do is to help one another to develop to the level of progressive nations.”
“While our help will surely come from God, let us unite and be one another’s keepers and neighbors. Only by these, can we leave for the next generation a Plateau without stain.” The statement added.
