The President of the Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo has described the death of Surveyor Shenin Dasihit Tongkam, a COCIN Board of Trustees (BoT) member as a colossal loss to the Church and the nation.
He made the remark at COCIN LCC Wildlife Park, Jos during the funeral service of the deceased with and encouragement from Psalm 116:12-19.
He said during the little time he worked with the late BoT member, he understood that he takes his assignment serious; he is vast in the knowledge of his chosen profession and has served the Church very well until his death after an illness.
Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo who just assumed office as the new COCIN President urged the people to be comforted in the Lord because God is pleased with the death of a saint which He welcomes into His heavenly Kingdom and called on the widow of the deceased and family to trust in the Lord in their difficult moment.
While performing the funeral rites, the COCIN BoT Chairman and former COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Soja Bewarang said death is a reminder to the living that life has an end hence, the need to make our ways right with God.
In a sermon, Chairman of Regional Church Council, RCC Dadin Kowa, Rev. Mudimka Y. Seri read from Ecclesiastes 7:1-2 and charged the congregation to strive towards maintaining a good name for themselves because the name each individual makes for himself whether good or bad follows them even into the afterlife.
He noted that we give our children good names because we are conscious that such names may live after them that is why it is important channel more energy towards things that are eternal rather than things that are temporal and when we die we will leave them behind here on earth.
In her remarks, wife of the deceased, Mrs. Esther Shenin said her husband was a true father to her and the children because he has been there for them. She added that he was a man who was honest and dedicated to his work that is why he ensured that he does it in line with his professional code of conduct.
There were testimonies from his friends, colleagues, the Church and family who all testified that late Shenin was a man of good virtues whose services will be greatly missed. Late Surveyor Shenin Dashit Tongkam died after a brief illness at the age of 69 and left behind his wife, 5 children and many relations. He was buried in his house in Federal Lowcost, Jos.
