Ex-councillors in Niger State on Monday barricaded the state Secretariat in Minna, demanding their unpaid allowances.
Leader of the group, Mr. Garba Umar told Journalists that the allowances amounting to N4.8 million for furniture, severance allowance and other allowances.
He said the councillors will protest untill their demands are met.
In his words, “Each time we talk, they will say no money. We know there is money. Let them give us our constitutional entitlements. We know what comes into the state.
“If they refuse to answer us today, tomorrow we will still come and lock the Secretariate and if there is no response, it means they are working at home so we will follow them to thier houses and the hotels they are working.”
Permanent Secretary Ministry for Local government and Chieftaincy affairs in Niger, Abubakar Aliyu while appealed to the protestors, to give room for dialogue.
He promised to do everything possible to meet the demands of the protesters.
