Fatherless girl with 9As in WAEC listed for special honors alongside Ahmed Musa, others

Plateau social media awards specially recognizes Ulan, Ahmed and Dantala in its 2021 edition

Miss Ulan Sylvia Andrew, the Plateau orphan who made 9As in West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams last year has been listed for special recognition in the 2021 Plateau Social Media Awards.

Ulan, 17, will be awarded for Academic excellence. Super Eagles Captain, Ahmed Musa will also be specially recognized for contributing to grassroots sports development in Nigeria.

The Special Recognition category also features Plateau musical band, Dantala & Group. Dantala is being honoured for “excellence in rebranding, packaging and exporting Plateau indigenous Music to the world with his Ndengdeng Brand.”

Ulan is the youngest and non-celebrity candidate in the category. Her recent WAEC results which are believed to be unprecedented, have endeared her to many.

Ulan was born in 2003, six months after the passing away of her father, Andrew Mamwan Longchi.

Fortunately, she is blessed with a hardworking and Godfearing mother, Martha Andrew Longchi, who withstood every pain and pressure to give her quality moral and formal education.

At the age of four, Ulan was enrolled into Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School, Bukuru in 2007. She maintained an outstanding record throughout her Primary education, emerging the best graduating pupil in the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for Unity Schools in 2014. This impressive performance qualified her for the National Cradle to Career (NC2C) scholarship scheme of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo).

Thus, Ulan was enrolled in Premiere Academy Lugbe, Abuja. Until then, she attended Federal Government College, Jos for two weeks, while awaiting the Shell scholarship test results, clearly demonstrating unending passion for education.

At Premier Academy, Ulan was appointed Assistant Head Girl and Library Prefect. There, she kept a sterling record, graduating with an unprecedented all A1 result, in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) exam in October 2020.

For the records, Ulan holds amongst others, Award for 2019 third finalist of the PZ Cussons Chemistry Challenge held in Lagos, Award for 2020 best graduating student from the Vice Chancellor, Nile University of Nigeria, and Award for 2020 Best Performing Student by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo).

She has been offered scholarships by the Plateau State Government, Northern Governors Forum and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, based on her SSCE results, to study petrochemical engineering, her childhood dream.

These have however yet to materialize, as she is still awaiting University admission for further studies.
