Gowon @ 90: Nigerians Tasked on Nation Building

The former Anglican Archbishop of Jos, Most Rev. Dr. Benjamin Kwashi has said Nigeria has heard the gospel but is yet to witness it’s manifestation because the gospel has the power to build people intellectually, spiritually, physically and develope communities.

Gen. Yakubu Gowon Rtd, Former Nigerian Head of State

Bishop Kwashi disclosed this while speaking as the guest preacher at a special thanksgiving service in celebration of the 90th birthday of the former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon Rtd, held at the National Christian Center, Abuja.

The Bishop read from Romans 1:16-17 with the topic, “The power of the gospel” and noted that God called us to bring healing, become a solution to the world, expand the frontiers of the gospel and develop our society.

Bishop Kwashi who stood in for the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the Most Rev. Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba added that past missionaries have worked tirelessly in providing healthcare, education, commerce and agriculture and have brought other notable developments to Nigeria but today Christians seem to have lost focus.

He urged those in power to invest in the younger generation who will embark in nation building and turn the story of Nigeria around into a prosperous one.

Rev. Kwashi appreciated elder statesmen for their service to the nation in which they set a conducive atmosphere for a prosperous nation in which they provided free education, free feeding and an economy which made life easy for Nigerians.

He described the celebrant as a Christian who easily forgives those who offend him and urged the congregation to learn from the elder statement in order to move the nation forward.
