Gunmen kidnap Clergy, Village Head, one other in Plateau

Reports from locals reveal that gunmen have kidnapped three persons in two communities of Shendam local government area in Plateau State.

A clergy, Rev. Sunday Lamko and one other person were said to have been kidnapped by suspected armed men on Thursday night in Yamini Village according to locals, and the Village head of Byem Byem was also kidnapped on the same night at his residence in the community.

According to eye witness reports, the heavily armed kidnappers numbering 5 stormed Yamini community at around 1:am and injured one of the youths who were having a night vigil in one of the Churches in the area before gaining access into the Pastor’s house and whisked him away with his phone, that of his wife and some clothes from his wardrobe.

The kidnappers were said to have also kidnapped a neighbour of the clergyman before taking off to the bushy boundary between the community and Awe local government area of Nasarawa State.

The Lightbearer learned that some vigilante groups who went after the kidnappers only found a suit belonging to the clergy at a place they believed the gunmen parked their motorcycles 3 kilometres away from the village before trekking to carry out the operation.

Another report has it that the village head of Byem Byem village which is just some kilometres away from Yamini was also kidnapped that same night.

The kidnappers were said to have called demanding a N15 million ransom for the clergy and the other person in Yamini while threatening to kill them if not settled.

Although the Spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, ASP Gabriel Ubah when contacted, said he was not aware but promised to call the Divisional Police Officer of Shendam which he later said could not pick his calls at the time of filling in this report.

Sources from Yamini said the Police from Shendam Division were in the area yesterday and gotten vital Intel to aid them in rescuing the victims.
