Insecurity: Plateau Lawmaker Sponsors Bill For Early Warning System Agency.

In a bid to curb the problems of bandits and armed herdsmen Stealth-move attacks and threats on citizens of Plateau State, member representing Quanpan North in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Prof. Theodore Maiyaki has sponsored a bill to establish Community Early Warning System to address the menace.

The bill titled, “a bill to provide for a law to establish a Plateau State Community Early Warning System” passed second reading during plenary of the 10th Assembly on Tuesday at the Old Government House, the temporary sitting venue of the Assembly in Jos.

While giving reasons for the bill, the lawmaker said the problem of bandits and armed herdsmen’s stealth moves, attacks, and threats, which have resulted in the wanton loss of lives and destruction of properties has made it necessary to establish Community Early Warning System in all rural and urban areas of the state capital and local government areas in Plateau State.

He said the Community Early Warning System which has 10 core components, when established shall aim at timely detection of stealth moves, kidnapping, threats, and attacks of bandits and armed herdsmen, including saving lives, protecting sources of livelihoods, properties and strengthening recovery from disasters and crises.

The agency when established shall be known as Plateau State Community Early Warning System Agency (PLACEWSA).

In a related development, the member representing Barkin Ladi state constituency Hon. Dickson Chollom has raised alarm over what he described as wanton destruction of maize crops in farms by herdsmen in his constituency.

In a notice of motion, the member urged his colleagues to call on the Plateau State Government and Security Agencies to address the mass destruction of Maize Crops in Mazat (Ganadaji) Community of Barkin Ladi and to bring perpetrators to justice.

He said among the fundamental objectives of Government is the provision of security and welfare for its people, maintaining the sanctity and dignity of the human person and the protection of its citizens at all times as enshrined under Sections 14 (1) (2) (b) and 17 (2) (d) (c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

Two bills titles, “A bill for a law to provide for the establishment, development and regulation of Health management Information system and for other matters related, 2025 sponsored by Hon. Nanbol Listick and Hon. Mark Na’ah and a bill to provide for a law to regulate the right and obligation of parties under tenancy agreement and the relationship between the Landlord and the tenant including the procedure for the recovery of premises and for other related matters, 2025 by Prof. Theodore Maiyaki all passed first reading at the plenary.
