Insecurity: We Need Police Outpost, Riyom Natives Cry Out

Natives of Rim Community in Riyom LGA of Plateau state are appealing for authorities concerned to establish a Police outpost in the area to help address the incessant attacks in the area.

According to them, if a Police outpost is established it will serve as a first point of call for the community in an event of any security breach and will also go a long way in curtailing instances of them putting a call to the local government headquarters to report any breach of law within the community.

Speaking with the Lightbearer in the community, Pastor Dachung Dachollom of COCIN Gako also backs the calls for a state Police, saying it will also complement the efforts of the existing security outfits, especially in rural communities.

“Thoroughly, I believe if government will look into the issue of state Police, it will reduce some of the problems we are faced with in the remote areas today” he said.

Some other community members of the area who spoke with our correspondent, said often times due to distance and bad nature of their roads, the criminals usually flee after committing the crimes before the arrival of security operatives to the area, .

They also called on the government to come up with youth oriented programmes that will engage the youths to be more productive so as to reduce idleness among some of them.

Rim Community is one among many communities in Riyom local government area and it’s environs that has in the past years suffered repeated attacks that claimed lives of the natives and destruction of property despite a Military check point situated at Rahoss community some few kilometers away on the Jos- Abuja high way.
