Stakeholders in peace building have said they are making rigorous campaign for Plateau State to serve as model for Peace not only in Nigeria but to the world at large.
This was made known by the stakeholders at a peace walk to commemorate the 2025 International Peace Day in Jos, the Plateau State capital on Saturday.
The peace walk which started at the secretariat Junction with the Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PPBA) Staff, the GIZ, members of the Plateau Peace Practitioners Network (PPPN), and other partners terminated at the Old Airport roundabout.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of Plateau Peace Building Agency, (PPBA), Dr. Julie Sanda said all they are doing is for the peace of Plateau, and to achieve that, everybody must be involved.
She said this year’s theme for the International Peace Day is, “Act Now for a Peaceful World” but here on the Plateau they stepped it down to “Act Now for a Peaceful Plateau”.
“We on the Plateau will show the world how to build peace when we put our hands together.” Said the PPBA DG as she reiterated that peace must start with an individual, family and the society at large.
Myrian Wedraogo, the Head of Peace Core II, a project being implemented by GIZ, a German agency for international cooperation on behalf of the German Government, said the peace agenda is a priority in German Government through the Peace Core project by the GIZ.
She appreciated all the participants and said beyond the event, the peace walk portrays individual and collective steps towards peaceful and inclusive society.
President, Plateau Peace Practitioners Network (PPPN), Mr. Nanmah Bali said they are collaborating with various stakeholders for peace on the Plateau as he stressed the need for understanding and respect for one another to actualize the peace.
He outlined the weeklong activities to commemorate the International Peace Day which includes Muslim prayer in the mosques yesterday Friday, media engagement, peace walk, Church service on Sunday at ECWA headquarters, peace tree planting on Tuesday, novelty football match on Wednesday and grand finale at Fox hotel in Jos.
The International Peace Day is commemorated around the world every 21st September, with this year’s theme as “Act Now for a Peaceful World”.
The Day was established by unanimous United Nations resolution in 1981 for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace in the society.
