Jos Based NGO Trains Citizens on Trauma Healing

Worried by the growing cases of depression and trauma among people in the society, a Non-Governmental Organization has trained youths and adults in Jos to be trauma healing coaches in their various community.

The 3-day training which was organized by the NGO known as “Back on Track Charity Foundation” is aimed at bringing healing to the already traumatized citizens as part of their core mandates as an organization.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the foundation, Mr. Ayuba Bulus said trauma healing is one of their thematic areas and is in collaboration with Trauma Healing Institute where the resource persons came from.

According to the Executive Director, most of the traumatized people in the society today are the younger ones. In his words, ” just like the recent case of JAMB, so many students are fed up. Again, you see a student that finished school and hoping to find a job and there is no job for him. So is already a trauma to them.

” So Back on Track Charity Foundation is coming into two faces, to heal and to help them have something doing through our skill acquisition training package.”

He noted that their expectations are that the participants will all be healed and then help others in their communities as well.

Also speaking, a trauma therapist and the Secretary of the Nigeria Community of Practice on Trauma Healing, Mr. Christopher Philip, who was at the training to appreciate what the Foundation is doing, said situations in the society today has pushed a lot of people into trauma.

According to him “people are losing it, some are out of control, apathy everywhere.” He said there is a need for people to be accountable to one another, checking and caring for one another and supporting one another will go along way in healing the heart of some of the traumatized people in the society.

Certificates were issued to the participants at the end of the 3-day training which was held at the Back on Track Charity Foundation office in Tudun Wada, Jos.
