Jos School Collapse: Plateau Assembly Lauds Gov. Mutfwang, Citizens’ support for victims

Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have lauded the prompt intervention of the Plateau State Governor, Barr Caleb Mutfwang for victims of the last Friday School Building Collapse in Busa Buji area of Jos North Local Government of Plateau State.

The Assembly Standing Committee Chairman on Information, and member representing Mangu South Constituency, Hon. Matthew Kwarpo Sylvanus gave the commendation on Saturday when the leadership of the House of Assembly paid an on the spot assessment visit to the scene of the incident and the hospitals to empathize with the injured.

While commending the Governor and the Speaker of the Assembly for cutting short their official engagement outside the state to identify with the victims, Kwarpo also appreciated the governor’s benevolent in footing the treatment bills of the injured and ordering the closure of the school.

The 10th Plateau Assembly spokesman also appreciated the contributions of all the rescue team, especially security agencies and members of the Red Cross that worked asidously to rescue some of the trapped students and staff from the collapsed building alive.

“We appreciate the hospitals for their kindness, treating people like this, the way they handled the emergency and all the health agencies. I saw Red Cross, I even saw fire service, the police, everybody was just there.”

He also commended all Plateau citizens who rushed and donated blood to save the lives of the survivous of the ugly incident in the various hospitals they were admitted and the health workers who worked all night to provide good care to the victims.

“Everybody did everything, Plateau people are kind people, you could see people were carrying shovels, carrying hoes, some were pouring water. I just love it, I saw the unity of purpose of the Plateau people.” He added.

According to the Assembly spokesman, their actions demonstrated the true Plateau spirit, urging them to keep the flag of goodness flying.

While condoling with families of the victims and the government of the state, Kwarpo urged them to find solace in God and appealed to all citizens to be committed to the unity of the state as the government declares 3 days mourning.

He added that as Lawmakers, they would do all they can within the ambit of the constitution to ensure safety of all citizens in the state and beyond.
