NEWSAN seeks partnership with Plateau Budget Ministry in Budget processes

The Society for Water and Sanitation, (NEWSAN) has sought partnership with the Plateau State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning to be involve in the state budget process for good governance.

State Coordinator of NEWSAN, Dr. Vings Lomak led the NEWSAN team to the office of the State Commissioner at the Ministry in State Secretariat in Jos, Plateau State.

The NEWSAN State coordinator who was represented during the courtesy visit by Treasurer of the organization, Mrs. Vou Shom said they were in the ministry to congratulate the Commissioner and to also seek partnership in areas of water sanitation and hygiene.

She described the Budget and Economic Planning Ministry as the gateway in budgeting and receiving donors, where she noted that the ministry have been identified as a critical stakeholder in development hub hence, the need for the collaboration to better the citizens lives.

The treasurer explained to the Commissioner, Hon. Chrysanthus Dawam that their area of intervention focuses on contributing to the attainment of the global development agenda of Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs with particular attention in goals 6,5 and 17 as main areas while touching on many other goals.

She said the network is a resource base for Professionals in various aspects of WASH sub-sectoral development that involves Information gathering, capacity building for organizations and committees, project design and management.

Others according to her are, Monitoring and Evaluation, Data Analysis and Documentation, Awareness Creation and Sensitization, Conflict Mitigation and Crisis Prevention, Borehole drillings and repairs and Consultation Services.

Responding, the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Chrysanthus Dawam appreciated the team for the visit and noted that they are an organization to be recon with.

He said already, the 2025 state budget is before the Plateau State House of Assembly for scrutiny, but assured them that they will be fully involves in all the budget processes in the 2026 budget.

“I see you as one of those partners that we would really engage. Madam, you have itemized a lot of request, I can count about 4 or 5 that you mentioned. Let me say that your request have been granted.

“The good thing is that you want to be involve in the budget process, how we go about it and where your role will be as far as the implementation is concern. Let me assure you, you will be fully involves as far as the process for 2026 budget is concern.” He emphasized.
