PLACA Adopts New Prevention Strategy for HIV&AIDS

The Plateau State AIDS Control Agency, (PLACA), said it has Adopted a new prevention strategy for Human Immuno deficiency Virus, HIV and Acquired Immuno deficiency Syndrome AIDS in the State.

Director of the agency, Mrs. Esther Turaki made this known while playing host to members of Media Action for Health, Environment and Sustainable Development, (MAHESD) during a courtesy visit to her office on Wednesday in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

According to the Director, their target in PLACA is to focus on prevention, and they are looking at achieving a target which is call 95-95-95.

She noted that the first 95 talks about the population, which means that the population should be able to know their HIV status by availing themselves for testing.

“The second 95 is that, those who are tested and are found to be positive are place on treatment. And the third 95 is that those that are on treatment should adhere to their treatment in order to achieve viral load suppression.

She appreciated members of the Media Action for Health, Environment and Sustainable Development for the visit and assured of partners to achieve the goals of the agency.

Earlier, team leader of MAHESD, Mrs. Zainab Babaji had explained to the PLACA Director and her staff that MAHESD is a team of like minds Journalists from Broadcasts, Print and New Media, (Bloggers), working on promoting healthcare and environmental activities for the wellbeing of the citizens.

She explained that the visit was aimed at familiarizing with the office and pledged partnership to promote activities of the agency. She also spoke about creating awareness among citizens against stigma and the need for regular testing for people to know their status.
