Plateau 10th Assembly: 20 New Members Emerge

Twenty new members have emerged from different political parties to represent their various constituencies in the Plateau State 10th Assembly.

The 20 newly elected members are, Joseph Gokum (APC), Kanke, Mrs. Happiness Akawu, (PDP), Pengana, Mrs Salome Tanimu Wanglek, (PDP), Pankshin South, Dewan Kudangbena, (YPP), Pankshin North, Ishaku Maren, (PDP) Bokkos.

Others are, Chief Sani Idi Shilak, (PDP) Mangu North East, Danjuma Azi, (PDP), Jos North West, Adamu Aliyu, (APC) Jos North North, Madaki Isa Ajiji, (APC) Jos East, Cornelius Dongnaan Doeyok, (PDP) Qua’anpan South, Datugun Paul Yaro, (PDP), Qua’anpan North, Joseph Bukar, (APC), Shendam.

Some of the new members include, Matthew Sule, (PDP), Mikang, Philip Jwe, (PDP), Barkin Ladi, Nanbol Rimvyat, (PDP), Langtang North Central, Barr. Nimnan Langyi, (PDP), Langtang North North, Nimchak Rims, (PDP), Langtang South, Ibrahim Adamu Galadima, (APC), Wase, Idris kallamu, (APC), Dengi and Agbalak Ibrahim, (PDP), Rukuba/Irigwe.

Meanwhile, only Four out of the Eight House of Assembly members who won their parties ticket for re-election bids scaled through to form the 10th Assembly by June this year.

The Four returning members are Fom Gwottson, (PDP) Jos South, Timothy Dantong, (PDP) Riyom, Bala Fwangje (PDP) Mangu South and Bala Noma, (APC) Kantana.

The 10th Plateau State House of Assembly will be made up of 16 PDP members who will form the majority in the House with 7 APC Members who will become opposition in the House alongside the only winner from YPP in the State.

Based on zoning system in the State, the Southern Senatorial District are expected to produce the Speaker of the 10th Assembly with the Northern zone producing Deputy Speaker, while the Central zone will have the Majority Leader of the House.

Among the 6 local governments that made up the southern zone, Shendam had produced a Speaker in the person of, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, and Qua’anpan had also produced Rt. Hon. Mike Dapianlong as well as Mikang with Rt. Hon. George Daika.

As it stands, Langtang South, Langtang North and Wase are yet to produce a Speaker. And now Wase Constituency is out of the contest for the Speakership because the member is from the opposition party.
