Plateau State House of Assembly standing committee on finance has interfaced with Ministries, Departments and Agencies under the committee to assess the first quarter performance of the 2025 budget of their respective offices.
The exercise which took place at room 2 of the committee’s hall in the Plateau State House of Assembly, had the MDAs’ management present reports of their budget performance in the first quarter before the committee.
Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and member representing Pankshin South in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Denty Laven (APC), said the exercise was aimed at looking at the performance to see if they are on the right track with the budget or not, so as to improve inorder to ensure optimal performance of the 2025 budget in the state.
Mr. Bomkom Wuyep, the Director General (DG) of Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency, (PLASMIDA), who led management staff of the agency to the interface, described it as a fruitful and objective engagement for the betterment of the state.
According to him, their first quarter budget performance was good and the committee also advised them in some areas, where he believes that they will achieve more by working in synergy.
Mrs. Atihong Yengoet, the overseeing officer of the Plateau State Debt Management Office, presented their capital and overhead performance before the committee. She disclosed that the Assembly Committee had made some observations on their work and she promised to make adjustments for improvement .
On the State’s debt servicing, Mrs. Yengoet said the State’s debt is being managed under the Consolidated Revenue Funds and according to her, maintaining a tight balance has put them in at a sustainable level.
While Mr. Lapson Suleiman, the Director of Finance and Supply of Bureau for Public Procurement, described the interface as a routine exercise to measure the actual performance of their budget, noting that they are at their best in terms of due process in procurement, purchases and construction.
He said the major challenge of the bureau is office accommodation, which he was optimistic will soon be over as the Governor has promised them a place before the rains this year.
The committee Chairman, Hon. Denty Laven spoke after the exercise, where he scored the budget performance of personnel cost as 100% moving, but observed that the capital budget is not performing as expected but was hopeful that if they put their observations to use it will be better in the next quarter.
Other committee members present at the interface were Hon. Kallamu Dal, representing Dengi Constituency and Hon. Eli Ankala, representing Rukuba/Irigwe Constituency.
