Plateau Assembly Grants Autonomy To Auditor General

The Plateau State House of Assembly has passed a bill seeking for the establishment of the office of the Auditor General of the State and Local Governments in the State.

The bill which is an executive bill, scaled through third reading during Tuesday plenary and the Clark of the House was mandated to forward same to the governor to assent to.

Office of the Auditor General of the state which has been under the Ministry of finance, was existing without a legislative framework but with the passage of this bill and if later assent to by the governor, shall become an independent office with full autonomy.

During the Tuesday plenary, the house also screened and confirmed the appointment of some nominees of the governor among them was the Auditor General of the State, Mr. Rimbam Selchum Lar who has been operating in an acting capacity.

Other confirmed nominees are Barr. Luka Caleb Fwangyil as Chairman, Civil Service Commission and Chief James Barry as Member of the Commission, Alh. Salisu Gyabe as member Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission.

Mr. Dashe Arlat Dasagot who has been the acting Chairman of Plateau State Internal Revenue Service was also confirmed as substantive chairman of the service while the tenure of the Director General Procurement, Mr. Peter Dogo was renewed.

The Speaker of the 9th Assembly, Abok Ayuba who had earlier read the governor’s request seeking the confirmation of the nominees, charged them to discharge their various duties with a sense of seriousness in order to add value to the state.

Other members of the House also tasked the appointees on productivity.

The appointees assured the House of better performance and appreciated governor Simon Lalong for finding them worthy of the appointment.
