The Plateau State House of Assembly has passed the supplementary budget of N109 billion as requested earlier by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
At a plenary on Tuesday, the supplementary budget bill was presented by chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and member representing Jos North North, Dr. Adamu Aliyu, after the committee scrutiny for the house consideration.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang had earlier sent a supplementary budget proposal of N74,605,413,000, for the 2025 fiscal year.
On his letter to the State Assembly, Gov. Mutfwang explained that the additional budget if passed, will address urgent state needs arising from internally generated revenue, focusing on expanding critical infrastructure and deepening social cohesion across Plateau State.
After presenting the bill, the lawmakers converged into committee of supply, where the Speaker served as chairman of the committee and discussed the budget page by page as adopted by the members.
The Committee returned to plenary after adopting the bill before it was passed.
Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel commended the Lawmakers for their intellectual engagement while discussing the bill, calling on secretaries and clerks to correct some of the observations raised during the discussion. He directed the Clerk of the Assembly to make a clean copy of the bill for the Governor to assent to.
Speaking to Journalists shortly after the plenary, the House Committee Chairman on Information and member representing Mangu South, Hon. Matthew Kwarpo said the House passed the supplementary budget based on the State needs after thorough scrutiny.
He said there was an additional proposal that was sent by the governor in accordance with the Constitution as an addendum based on demands, which the Lawmakers found necessary to pass after scrutinizing it.
During the plenary, a bill for a law to establish the Plateau State House of Assembly Pension Service Board and for the Administration of the Contributory Pension Scheme for it’s Personnel in line with Pension Reform Act 2014, and for connected purpose 2025, as sponsored by Hon. Dickson Chollom and 8 others scaled first reading.
The Lawmakers thereafter declared a 3 weeks recess in accordance with legislative calendar and are expected to resume on the 30th September, 2025.
