Plateau Governor wants councillors to grow their LGCs

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has tasked councillors to work in synergy with Local Government Executives to improve life at the grassroots.

The Governor was speaking at the close of a three-day capacity building workshop for the second batch of Councillors in the state, held at the ITF Centre of Excellence, Bukuru, in Jos South local government area of Plateau State.

.The workshop was organized by the Plateau State House of Assembly in collaboration with the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. It was sponsored by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Danladi Atu, Lalong advised the councillors to always consult with the state Legislators in before taking any decision.

Speaking to journalists during the workshop, Leader of Jos East local government Legislative Arm, Engr. Samuel Izang said the workshop had shaped their understanding and capacity to represent and make laws.

“”As lawmakers, we need to know what we are doing, because you cannot make laws that will consume the people, but rather laws that will add value to the people because the essence of law is to provide solutions that will better the lives of the people” he said.

Also speaking, the leader of Langtang North Legislative Arm, Mr. Nanzing Maina said the training better placed them to make quality laws.
“In Langtang North Legislative Arm, you are going to see some changes because of this training,” he said.

Earlier, Member representing Langtang North Central in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Nanbol Listick who coordinated the training, said the state Assembly will monitor the impact of the training on councillors within three months.
