A journalist with the Plateau Publishing Corporation, Mrs. Palang Kasmi, has celebrated her 51st birthday by providing sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene support to displaced women and girls in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The humanitarian outreach, organised to commemorate International Women’s Day under the theme “Give to Gain,” benefited hundreds of women and girls who have been displaced by recurring attacks in the area.
Beyond distributing sanitary pads, the programme also featured menstrual hygiene education and training for 100 displaced women and girls on how to produce reusable sanitary pads to promote sustainability and empowerment.
Kasmi said the initiative was inspired by her years of reporting on humanitarian challenges in IDP camps and her desire to go beyond storytelling to practical intervention.

She expressed hope that the initiative, carried out through the Palang Kasmi Initiative, would be extended to other IDP communities across Plateau State to support more women and girls facing similar challenges.
Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Plateau State Council, Ayuku Pwaspo, commended the initiative, describing it as a practical example of compassion and social responsibility.
Chairman of the Bokkos IDPs Welfare Committee, Bishop Ayuba Matawal, noted that many displaced persons in the area still struggle with limited humanitarian assistance following repeated attacks since 2023.

He stressed that hygiene support and education provided during the outreach were crucial in helping displaced women maintain dignity and adapt to life in temporary shelters.
The training session was facilitated with support from the Trefoil Guild and the Women and Girl-Child Rescue Development Initiative, displaced women.
