Plateau lawmakers want rural power station active

Businesses of different sorts will gain from the project, when functional, returning more to Government in taxes, said Usman.

Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have called for the reactivation of the electricity substation in Pankshin, to boost power in rural communities.

In a legislative motion on Wednesday, Deputy Speaker of the House and Member representing Dengi constituency, Shehu Usman said, the substation was established to draw energy from the 132kv Makeri power substation in Dadin Kowa, Jos, but the lines for such were bad.

Businesses of different sorts, artisans included will gain from the project, when functional, returning more to Government in taxes, said Usman.

The motion was unanimously supported, not just for the reactivation of the Pankshin substation, but all others non-functional in the State.

Member representing Jos North West constituency, Mrs. Esther Dusu, said if the electorates have the right to basic social amenities. “No part of the state should be without electricity,” she said.

The House mandated its Committee on Water Resources and Energy to summon the Transmission Company and other stakeholders for a solution to the problem.
