The Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman, Plateau State Traditional Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba has appealed to the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang to speak to security agencies on the need to protect farmers to farm freely this year.
The traditional ruler was speaking recently at the sideline of the commissioning of metro buses by the state government to ease transportation challenges faced by the citizens.
According to him, the farmers are trying to grow food for the masses but they need protection from security agencies against their attackers.
“And we will appeal to the Governor to speak to the security agencies to make sure that these farmers are well protected.” He said.
The Paramount ruler advised the government to mobilize the local vigilante to assist the conventional security agencies in the task of protecting the citizens.
“Because everybody is complaining of high cost of food stuff, but the fact is that the farmers are being chased away from their farm lands.” He added.
Da Buba appreciated efforts of the state government for setting up a committee saddle with the responsibility of taking back Internally Displaced Persons IDPs, to their ancestral lands to continue with their vocations.
While pledging the utmost cooperation of the Plateau State Traditional Council with Government in all it’s programs, he also called on all Plateau citizens to cooperate with the government to achieve it’s laudable programs aimed at easing the hardship that people are currently passing through.
The call by the traditional ruler became imperative, considering the persistent attacks on farming communities and destruction of farm produce in the state by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
