The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Na’anlong Daniel, has charged the newly appointed Principal Officers of the House to be good ambassadors.
He made the call during his first sitting as the newly elected Speaker on Tuesday at the Old Government House in Rayfield, Jos.
According to him, they were selected based on their pedigree, and he hoped they would justify the confidence reposed on them to move the House forward.
The Principal Officers include Hon. Joseph Gokum, representing Kanke constituency as Majority Leader, Hon. Owen Dagogot, representing Qua’apan North constituency, Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Dalyop Gyang, representing Jos South constituency as Chief Whip.
Others were Hon. Abdul Yanga, member representing Mangu North Constituency, Deputy Whip, Hon. Ibrahim Galadima, member representing Wase Constituency as Party Whip, and the immediate past Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan as Minority Whip.
During the plenary, three bills sponsored by Hon. Theodore Maiyaki SAN, member representing Qua’apan South constituency, passed through first reading.
The bills are, A bill to establish the Plateau State Community Early Warning System (CEWS) to curb banditry and armed herdsmen attacks in rural and urban areas, A bill to provide for the resolution of investment and commercial disputes by arbitration in Plateau State and A bill to prohibit the use, manufacture, transport, and sale of single-use plastics in Plateau State.
The House also urged the State Government to take drastic measures to curb the incessant banditry, kidnapping, and attacks in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area.
