Plateau State Proposes Mid-year Budgeting by 2023

Mr. Lamba Peter Bot, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning

The Plateau State Government says it is proposing a mid-year budgeting system for better governance in the state.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mr. Lamba Peter Bot, made the proposal during the ministry’s 2023 budget defense before the House Committee on Finance.

Mr. Lamba said the mid-year budget will give an opportunity for the new administration to have some form of direction from their objectives as the mid-year entry begins at July when the new administration have began the process of settling in office with their manifestos on how to perform.

He said whatever the new administration inherited, they might have reason to continue with that budget for that year.

“The mid-year budget session will provide opportunity to have some modification and redirection of the budget. That is why the emphasis is on the first six months of the year for this administration to complete the ongoing projects, because if you look at the budget there is high percentage of provision for completion of ongoing projects, like the flyover, the water project, electricity and the road projects at the end of this administration in May next year.

“And then the midyear budget will also help the administration to kick start or have a button to press for the commencement of their policies in the last 7 months of the year” he said.

Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and member representing Kanke Constituency, Barr. Wallok Goma, said the exercise is a constitutional obligation for them to check the executive because they are representing the people from the various constituencies in the state.
