Plateau to Establish Cattle Ranches, Boost Economy through Agriculture

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has hinted that his administration is planning to drive the state economy through Agriculture, both in crops and animals.

The Gov. stated this during a second addition of his Media Parley held at the Government House little Rayfield in Jos, the state capital.

The media parley avail the governor an avenue to let the world know what “The Time is Now” administration has done and what its doing to improve governance in all aspects of the state.

He said in order to boost agriculture, his administration had to separate the Ministry into two, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Livestock to enable them maximize the potentials that are in the sector.

Mutfwang said the administration is going to establish Ranches and bring the Friesian cattle that were imported by the Gov. Jonah Jang administration to boost the production of Milk in the state.

According to him, the traditional Cow can only produce 2 and half litters of Milk per day, but the Friesian species of cattle can give like 20 litters of the Milk in a day.

“And what we are proposing to do is that when we set up the ranches….is going to be for everybody. If you want to bring your cow there, we have a scientific method of identifying your cow and therefore you can be a shareholder in that ranch.” Said the governor.

He added that it will also create employment opportunity for Livestock attendance and Veterinary Doctors in the state.

Gov. Mutfwang also hinted that the state abattoir is undergoing massive upgrades to meet international standards, aligning with the Livestock Transformation Programme in Wase and Kanam LGAs. Noting that they are proposing slaughtering like 500 Cows daily in the Abattoir.

He also informed the journalists that the state is also looking into improving Fishery, Poultry and Piggery as well.

Mutfwang added that the state is doing everything possible with investors to promote exportation of the branded Jos Potato and Coffee to the outside world through the International Cargo Airport.

The governor used the medium to reeled out his administration’s achievements within the last two years in areas of infrastructure, security, economy, education and others. He also disclosed his government’s future plan for the state.
