PLHA Recommends 116b as against Lalong’s 106b 2022 Appropriation bill

Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have recommended and passed a total budget size of N116,700,550,759.90 for the Plateau State 2022 appropriation bill as against the earlier N106,807,267,642.12 submitted to the House by the State Governor.

Reading the report before members during Thursday plenary at the old Plateau State Government House, the temporary venue for the House sitting, Chairman House Committee on appropriation, Yahaya Adamu explained to the floor the scrutinization of the budget during defense and that the increment was necessitated best on needs.

The budget breakdown shows that the committee recommended a total of N76, 672,558,762.40 only as recurrent estimate and N40, 027,997.50 only as capital estimate for the 2022 fiscal year.

Among other recommendations, the Committee also recommended for the Executive Governor to sponsor a bill seeking the alteration of the law establishing the College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies, Kurgwi (CARS) for the purpose of changing it to a Polytechnic, to enable it benefit from TETFUND.

During the plenary, the House Majority Leader, Nanlong Daniel had earlier moved a motion under matter of urgent public importance, on the Sunday security breach at the Jos custodial centre of the Nigeria Correctional Service.

He expressed worry that despite the high power security formation within and around the centre but it was attacked successfully. He expressed fear that the escapees pose a great danger to the society especially the hardened criminals among them.

At the plenary, the House received committee report of the Plateau State Land Administration Bill 2020 as read by Chairman House Committee on Land, Survey and Town Planning which subsequently passed through third reading.

The House also received the report of the Appropriation Committee on the request for virement of funds from Heads of Five (5) Ministries for the take over and completion of the Inland Container Deport in Heipang-Jos, Plateau State from the 2021 Budget.

There was drama as Member, representing Riyom Constituency, Timothy Dantong attempted to second a motion but the House Majority Leader, Nanlong Daniel raised point of order that the member is under suspension and should not be allowed to contribute to the plenary which the speaker, Yakubu Sanda supported.

Recalled that the Speaker, Yakubu Sanda led House members had earlier suspended six members loyal to the former Speaker, Abok Ayuba after the impeachment.

This is the first plenary comprising of both parties since the crisis that rocked the Plateau State House of Assembly after the impeachment saga, which signifies the return of peace and normalcy in the Plateau State House of Assembly.
