The Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA has refuted report in some media organizations purportedly accredited to President of the Church on declaring the Presidential Candidate the Church will support.
Statement by the ECWA Public Relations Officer, Rev. Romanus Ebenwokoli which was made available to Journalists in Jos, the Plateau State capital, described the publications as mischievous and malicious.
The statement said the attention of the Church was drawn at its Extraordinary General Church Council meeting which started Tuesday on the purported report on some certain media.
Citing example with the banner headline of the This-Day Newspaper with the caption “ECWA President: Church Will Announce Presidential Choice Soon” and that of the Vanguard Newspaper “Church to take decision soon-ECWA President, on their publications of 18th January, 2023.
“The General Church Council wishes to state that at no time did it make the alluded resolution, neither did the President at any time during the proceedings of the Council make the statement credited to him by the newspapers in question.
“ECWA as a denomination has its members across all Political parties and the leadership of ECWA respects that. Therefore, we need the teaming members of ECWA, the Church in Nigeria, and the general public to understand that the said publications are ABSOLUTE FALSEHOOD that have never been contemplated, and are meant to cause unnecessary tension that is capable of dragging the good name of ECWA to the mud” the statement added.
The Church therefore, gives the two media organizations 24 hours starting from 12 noon of 18 January, 2023 to publicly withdraw the said publications and to tender public apologies to ECWA.
