Rainstorm: 1 Injured, Church and Houses Destroyed in Kanke LGA

A violent rainstorm has injured a woman, destroying her house and many other houses in Kopging community of Ampang East District, Kanke LGA of Plateau State.

Speaking with the Lightbearer, a resident of the Community, Lengdang Morgak described the situation as pathetic and unfortunate.

He explained that the community has been without rain for some time and was happy when the clouds gathered only to leave behind a trail of destruction in the community.

“As we speak with you, a Catholic Church, St. Monica Catholic Church which was built and roofed just last year has been leveled by the rainstorm and almost 10 other houses were equally damaged.

Mama Namos Goma whose house was also swept while she was sleeping sustained injuries as a result” he added.

Mr. Morgak appealed to spirited individuals, the local government authority and the state government to come to the aid of the stranded and traumatized victims to curshion the effect of the destruction on them.

When contacted, Chairman of Kanke LGA, Nde Emmanuel Lar who replied via text message, said he has not been informed of the incident but will get there to confirm.

The affected Catholic church is said to be the only Catholic church in the locality which took members years to complete last year.
