The member representing Barkin Ladi constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Peter Gyendeng has donated three trailer loads of fertilizer to farmers in his constituency.
The fertilizer was part of Gyendeng’s 2020 constituency project, donated among other items, to over 800 rural farmers on Saturday.
Among the beneficiaries was the serving Senator for Plateau North, Istifanus Dung Gyang.
Mr. Gyang was given ten bags of fertilizer while his opponent from the All Progressives Congress during the 2019 general election, Mr. Rufus Bature got five. The All Progressives Congress Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, and former Plateau House of Assembly Speaker, Isa Song also got five bags each.
72 bags were given to former Local Government executives, 18 bags to present Local Government Officials and 20 bags to PDP stakeholders in the LGA.
“In my first tenure I concentrated on infrastructural projects. This time around I feel the need to empower my people,” said Mr. Gyendeng at his 2020 Agricultural empowerment program in Barkin Ladi town on Saturday.
Others donated by the lawmaker were grinding machines, industrial hair dryers, grinding machines, electric generators and water pump machines. 500 youths and women also got N10,000 each to start or expand businesses.
The donations made in partnership with Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA) are expected to reduce poverty and unemployment by 2021, Gyendeng said.
The Lawmaker was among 16 lawmakers who applied for PLASMISA to fund their constituency projects, said the agency’s Director General, Haggai Gutap.
The Agency, though run by APC Government caters for the business and financial needs of all citizens regardless of political affiliation, Mr. Gutap said.
“Poverty does not have tribe or political party. That is why we do everything possible to make people financially productive and independent,” he said.
The agency partners with CBN and other federal agencies to provide training and financing for micro, small and medium scale enterprises in the State.
It is believed to have trained and financed over 10,000 businessmen and women since its establishment four years ago.
Its Director General, Mr. Gutap is an experienced entrepreneur who is daily engaging stakeholders and experts in business locally and internationally to attract funding and networks for local businesses to gain.
