State Police, Restructuring will help address Insecurity in Nigeria- Hon. Bagos

Timothy Alamba

A former lawmaker in the National Assembly, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos has advocated for state police and restructuring of the federal system as solution to insecurity and other developmental challenges in Nigeria.

Hon. Bagos made this known recently during an interactive session with journalists at the NUJ Press centre in Jos the Plateau State capital.

According to him the current insecurity in Plateau state and Nigeria as a whole can be effectively tackled when there is restructuring to create state police and empower state Governors and local chiefs to address the security challenges in their domain.

He said another challenge in dealing with insecurity especially on the Plateau is getting justice for the victims. Most times those arrested are not prosecuted but detain for a short while and later released back to the society and as a result people are no longer confident in giving information to the security agencies.

The former Lawmaker expressed worry that there are ungoverned spaces in the country that have not been given attention by the government. He went further to describe the over 64 communities whose people were displaced as very rich in natural resources. But there is  so much power at the center that is not helping in tapping the natural resources in the ungoverned spaces.

According to him Plateau people need justice and not rice. He said the people are hardworking that they can farm rice, yam and other things that the ministry of Humanitarian affairs will give them after attack on their communities.

While appreciating the zeal of the youth in Plateau state the Honorable Member encouraged them to keep faith in the government and to build themselves so as to be credible for leadership tomorrow.

On the recent defections of some members of the PDP to the ruling party All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Bagos who is a member of the PDP said good governance and politics is about ideology that the politician believes in and added that his ideology and that of his people does not go in tandem with that of the APC.

While assuring news men that the issue of one party state will not stand on the Plateau, he advice politicians to move to other parties based on their ideological conviction and nobody should gag them into a one party system.

Answering questions on his political ambition in 2027, Honorable Dachung Musa Bagos said he believed the voice of the people is the voice of God and if the people want him to contest then he is willing. He said the only position that is uncontestable in 2027 is the position of the Governor.
