Update: FG takes Soil sample of Collapsed Jos School for Investigation

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Science and Technology has taken the soil sample of the collapsed school building in Plateau State for further investigation.

North Central zonal Coordinator of Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI), Terver Tyosar stated this while taking sample of the soil at the scene of the tragic incident in Busa Buji community of Jos North Local Government Area of the Plateau State.

According to Tyosar, the Institute which is an agency under the Ministry of Science and Technology is taking the soil sample to subject it to laboratory investigation as only scientific investigation can give exact cause of the building collapse.

“Though we observed that poor materials were used in the building, we observed poor workmanship and we doubted if a professional was involved during the building.

“But as an institute, we don’t draw hasty conclusion as only scientific investigation can bring their observation to conclusion.” He added.

He noted that the process will take only one month to get the result out.

Tyosar said they would make all their recommendations when the result of the investigation is out.

He advised the Plateau State House of Assembly to review the 1972 act, establishing the Jos Metropolitan Development Board JMDB to make it more effective to address such issues.

It would be recalled that last week Friday, a two storey school building collapsed in Busa Buji area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing 22 students, while 132 were hospitalized in different hospitals within the state capital.
