Village Chief faces threats as Police search for kidnapped student in Plateau

Saf (King of) Butura, in Bokkos area of Plateau State, John Makwal Mallo

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of a student in Kings College, Barkin Ladi in Plateau State in the early hours of Thursday.

Gunmen believed to be bandits stormed the missionary school at about midnight, breaking the parameter fence to gain access, Rev. Gideon Paramalam, the founder of Paramalam foundation told Journalists in Jos.

The gunmen according to him kidnapped three students but two escaped. Pastor Bayo Famonure, the founder of Calvary Ministries (CAPRO), owners of the school confirmed the abduction.

“Just back from the Kings School compound. One student was taken away. The security people suspect they’re close by as the student said they were already in the Fulanis house within 20 minutes of capture when his phone was called,” Pastor Bayo said.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the State, ASP Uba Ogaba said tactical teams of the Force were deployed soon as distress calls were received, preventing a mass kidnap.

Investigations are ongoing to trace and recover the kidnapped student, he said.

Last year, Pastor Bayo, his wife, and two children were attacked within the CARPRO compound in Ganaropp, Barkin Ladi but they all survived.

The latest threat to the missionary facility came hours after the Village Chief of Butura Community in Bokkos area reported threats to his own life by persons believed to be bandits.

Engr. John Makwal Mallo, the Saf (King) of Butura on Wednesday reported being trailed by strange people, whom he believes are attempting to kidnap him.

According to the Chief, “Yesterday I went home for funeral and on my way back, I was notified of some people trailing me and advised to turn back to a safer area which I did, before later getting another call from an inside source saying I am being targeted for kidnap.”

His claimed kidnap and the Kings College incident occured in Barkin Ladi town but clear links cannot be ascertained yet. He is however a lower King to the Saf Ronkulere in Bokkos, Da Lazarus Agai who was killed by herdsmen four years ago.
