The Niger state government says online media reports alleging it plans to recruit 4,000 local youths to fight insecurity are false.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy affairs, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, in a statement in Minna, Friday said the state is faced with “serious” insecurity, but government has no plan to engage youths to fight armed bandits.
The state however welcomes the idea of the State Police to compliment federal Securities in the fight against armed bandits and other criminals across the state, Daji said.
At the moment, over 2,000 local vigilantes have been mobilized across the state to work with conventional securities in a joint operation, he said.
