Plateau Youth Council (PYC) Northern zone has vowed to resist any further attacks on their people and land grabbing by Fulani militia in the State.
The group said this during a press conference held at the state NUJ Press Centre in Jos.
“As a people, let it be known that our people have never and will never be cowed by these acts of genocide again. It did not happen during the Jihadists movement and certainly it can NEVER happen in this age of enlightenment and technological sophistication. We will continue to resist any attempt of attacks and land grabbing.” The group said.
According to the Coordinator, Comrade Samson Chiroma, the continuous attacks that usually take place at the onset of the rainy season is aimed at discouraging the people from cultivating their farms with the hope of subjecting them to economic hardship.
“Well, we have news for our attackers. They should know that no amount of attacks can stop us from cultivating our lands as that has always been the preoccupation of our people and we will continue to carry on with this vocation and practice. No level of intimidation can stop us.” They added.
The Coordinator, Comrade Chiroma also used the opportunity to correct the erroneous impression that the attack is a ‘Communal clash’ as contain in the official statement by the Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
“The world should not be misled by this simplistic definition given to the carefully
planned and orchestrated genocide against our people by a rampaging Fulani militia that the United Nations has termed the fourth most dangerous terror group in the world.” The PYC said.
The press conference also called on the people, especially youths in the state to be united and harness their strength to fight the common enemy using all necessary legal means, because an injury to one is injury to all.
The Youth also called on the Plateau State government to strengthen the local security architecture, Operation Rainbow with the necessary equipment to help in their operations. And that more hands must be engaged to strengthen the security outfit to further compliment the conventional and non conventional security architecture in the state.
Comrade Chiroma went further to commiserate with the state government and all families who lost loved ones and properties in the renewed attacks in the state.
