With months to tenure end, Plateau Assembly Confirms Additional Commissioners

The Plateau State House of Assembly has confirmed two additional commissioner nominees to serve as members of the State Executive Council.

The nominees were screened and confirmed by the members during Tuesday plenary.

Speaker of the Assembly, Yakubu Sanda had earlier read a correspondent from the State Governor, Simon Lalong, requesting the House to screen and confirm his nominees to serve as members of the Executive Council.

He read that the nominees are to replace two commissioners and members of the state Executive Council, Mrs. Tamwakat Weli and Mr. Jerr Werr who had resigned their appointment recently.

The new Commissioner nominees for the replacement are Mrs. Yilkorah Mermwakat Cecilia from Kanke and Chief Benjamin Zoyong Jang from Jos North local government areas respectively.

Presenting the nominee from Kanke local government, the member representing Kanke Constituency, Barrister Wallok Goma, said the nominee is a well known fellow, a Livestock Scientist who before her nomination was the Deputy Director of Agriculture in Jos East local government area, adding that she has all the required qualities to serve as member of the state Executive Council.

Also, while presenting the second nominee from Jos North local government, member representing Jos North-North Ibrahim Baba Hassan, said the nominee was a staff of Water Board, a retired Banker and former head of the Information and Communication Technology Unit of the University of Jos. Baba Hassan said he has always made the local government proud and he is sure he will not fail this time.

The two nominees were subsequently screened and confirmed through a voice vote by members of the 9th State Assembly.
