The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), has cautioned its pastors and members against using the pulpit for partisan political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the need to preserve its sacred purpose.
The President of the Church, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, made this position known while reading the communique issued at the end of the Church’s 110th General Church Council (GCC) meeting held on Friday at the COCIN headquarters in Jos, Plateau State.
The Communique, jointly signed by Rev. Dr. Mohzo and the General Secretary, Rev. Dinfa Mamshal, emphasised the need for the Church to remain responsible and uphold its spiritual mandate during the forthcoming political season.
Beyond the political concerns, COCIN expressed deep worry over Nigeria’s persistent insecurity, economic hardship, poverty and unemployment, noting that these challenges continue to place enormous burdens on ordinary citizens.
The Church strongly condemned the continued killing of innocent Nigerians by terrorists, bandits and kidnappers, particularly the gruesome murder of Sheikh Ibrahim Yahaya Masussuka and the incarceration of Lami Samuel Dawa.

It called on the Federal Government to demonstrate transparent and accountable leadership while strengthening security operations to identify those responsible for the killings and bring them to justice.
COCIN also urged Nigerians to exercise caution in managing their harvest and storing food supplies, given the prevailing insecurity and drought conditions that could affect food availability.
On education, the Council approved an upward review of grants to Karl Kumm University KKU Vom, to enable the institution meet its growing operational needs.
The Church also reaffirmed its commitment to the speedy establishment of a COCIN Television Station, describing the project as an important tool for spreading the Gospel in an era increasingly shaped by modern technology.
It further commended the progress made towards the construction of its proposed guest house in Abuja.
The Council also accepted a proposal for an upward review of the welfare scheme for retired church workers and expressed hope that the process would be concluded without unnecessary delay.
Meanwhile, the Church expressed gratitude to God for the progress recorded by Light Micro-Finance Bank and the successful conduct of its 6th Annual General Meeting.
It encouraged COCIN members to invest in the bank by purchasing shares, while urging members of the general public to patronise its services.
The resolutions reflect the Church’s concerns about the nation’s political and security challenges, alongside its commitment to strengthening its institutions and welfare programmes.
