Your Being in Government is not an Accident- Gov. Mutfwang to LG Executives

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has reminded Local Government Executives that their being in Government is not an accident but an opportunity to pay the debt that they owe humanity.

This he said they must discharge their duties with every sense of responsibility.

The Gov. was speaking while declaring close a 5 day retreat organized by Plateau State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for Local Government Council Executives at Miango Rest Home, Miango, Bassa LGA, Plateau State.

Gov. Mutfwang called for synergy among the local government executives and administrators for a better local government administration in the state. He encouraged them to rethink local government administration and make a difference.

Speaking on the theme of the retreat which is, “That Plateau May Shine”, Gov. Mutfwang noted that if Plateau must shine then all the 17 local government areas of the state must shine as well.

He appreciated the resource persons who took out time to engage the local government executives on various topics and urged the participants to take the lessons learned back home to their respective staff.

Mr. Ephraim Usman, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who read the communique issued at the end of the 5 day retreat, said the event was an impactful one to the local government executives.

Some recommendations of the communique includes, the use of global practices such as the digitalization of public services and operations (i.e data collection and record keeping).

“The retreat also recommends participatory based budgeting in all LGAs in order to carry the communities along.
Rates and levies meant for the local government but are being collected by the state government due to lack of capacity by the LGAs should be shared with the LGAs.” among others.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of the 17 local government Chairmen, Hon. Hamisu Anani, the Chairman of Wase who is the Chairman of All Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), Plateau State Chapter, appreciated the governor for his fatherly role for the betterment of the local governments in the state, the resource persons and all those who played a role to the success of the retreat.

He assured that the takeaways off the retreat would serve as tools that will enable them improve local government administration in the state to make Plateau shine.

Participants at the retreat were Local Government Chairmen and their Deputies, Council Secretaries, Directors of Personnel Management and Directors of Finance and Supplies with some Staff of the State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
