Plateau Gov. Unveils Metro Buses to Ease Transportation for Citizens

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has procured and commissioned 15 state-of-the-art MAN-Diesel buses to ease transportation movement for citizens of the state.

At the commissioning of the Buses on Tuesday at the Old Government House Rayfield Jos, Gov. Mutfwang said the move is aimed at mitigating the costs of intra-city travel and providing a respite from the daily transportation challenges that commuters are facing.

“Today, we celebrate a milestone in our administration’s quest to fulfill the aspirations of our cherished citizens of Plateau State. We gather to mark a transformative step in our beloved city’s march towards modernity and progress—the unveiling of the Tin City Metro Urban Transportation Initiative.

“These buses are not mere vehicles; they are mobile hubs of innovation, equipped with the latest amenities such as Near Field Communication (NFC) and secure card payment systems. We are ushering in an era of digitized travel, aligning with the global shift towards cashless transactions for the convenience of our passengers.

He said to ensure safety of the transportation network, they have integrated comprehensive video monitoring systems with audio/video feeds on each bus to guarantee the safety of passengers and instill a culture of accountability and transparency within the operations.

“The Tin City Metro Urban Transportation Initiative is more than a transportation project; it is a catalyst for community development. It is expected to generate between 500 to 1000 job opportunities, fueling economic growth and fostering development across the state.

“Our government will remain steadfast in its adherence to due process, accountability, transparency, equity, and the rule of law. I call upon all traders and citizens to collaborate with our officials who strive to maintain a clean and healthy environment for us all. Rest assured, every decision made by this government is with your best interest at heart.’ He added.

The Governor called on all stakeholders, including leaders of MDAs, government parastatals, and appointees, to champion the transformative initiative.

Mr. Jatau Gyang, the Plateau State Commissioner for Transport while lauding the governor for the initiative, said the gesture is aimed at ameliorating the suffering of the people and not profit. He encouraged Plateau State citizens and residents to go get their cards to enjoy the services.

The General Manager, Plateau Express Services, Mr. Samuel Gwot reeled out some special features of the buses for ease accessibility to include a dedicated feature like communication gadgets and other signals for an individuals with disability.

He added that they have also developed a state of the art mobile application that allow riders and commuters to track the real time location and arrival time for Metro Buses to enable proper planning and reduce waste of time in waiting.

Mr. Gwot noted that they have 8 designated Top-up, purchase and pick-up metro cards points at under the bridge of Secretariat Junction, close to Tad’s Kitchen, after Miango roundabout, D-Zang Junction and Dadin Kowa-first gate.

Others are Bukuru Low-cost Junction, Plateau Polytechnic, Jos, Vom Junction and Polo roundabout. The metro travel cards is sold at the cost of N3000 only.

There were goodwill messages from the Plateau State Speaker, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, former Governor of Plateau State, Sen. Jonah David Jang, Gbong Gwom Jos, HRH. Jacob Gyang Buba among others.
