Plateau Assembly Demands Probe into Deadly Attack, Honours Late Ex-Lawmaker.

The Plateau State House of Assembly has condemned the recent deadly attack on Takkas community in Pankshin Local Government Area, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident that claimed lives and destroyed property.

The resolution followed a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised during plenary on Thursday by the member representing Pankshin North Constituency, Gabriel Dewan, who urged security agencies to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and bring those responsible to justice.

Dewan told the House that reports alleged an unidentified helicopter landed in a nearby community shortly before the attack, describing the allegation as serious and one that requires urgent investigation by relevant security authorities.

Members who contributed to the debate expressed concern over the worsening security situation across Plateau State, warning that the persistent attacks on communities demand decisive action from security agencies and government at all levels.

Following deliberations, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, granted all the prayers contained in the motion, including the call for a comprehensive investigation into the attack.

During the plenary, the Speaker also read a communication from Governor Caleb Mutfwang requesting the amendment of the 2026 Appropriation Law, which was subsequently referred to the appropriate legislative process for consideration.

The House also adopted the report on a bill seeking to establish, develop and regulate Health Management Information Systems, Disease Surveillance and Geomatic Banking in Plateau State. The report was presented by the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Daniel Nanbol Listick.

In addition, the Assembly held a special valedictory session in honour of the late Selven Musa, the Ponzhi Timwat of Langtang North Local Government Area, describing him as an exemplary traditional ruler and former legislator whose service left an enduring legacy.

Presenting the biography of the deceased, the member representing Langtang North North Constituency, Abel Nimchak, said the late Monarch represented Langtang North in the Plateau State House of Assembly from 1979 to 1983 and was re-elected for a second term before the military interrupted the democratic governance.

Nimchak added that the late Ponzhi Selven Musa served with humility and distinction, qualities that earned him the traditional stool of Ponzhi Timwat in 1997, where he continued to promote peace, unity and community development until his death.

In separate tributes, Daniel Nanbol Listick of Langtang North Central and Joseph Bukar of Shendam described the deceased as a God-fearing and disciplined leader whose death is a great loss to Plateau State and the nation. Eli Ankala of Rukuba/Irigwe and Gabriel Dewan also noted that the late Monarch treated public office as a sacred responsibility and discharged his duties with diligence and integrity.

Other lawmakers, including Ibrahim Galadima (Wase), Mark Naah (Jos North West) and Matthew Kwarpo (Mangu South), urged citizens to emulate the exemplary life of the late traditional ruler.

Speaker, Naanlong Daniel condoled the bereaved family and encouraged them to uphold his enduring legacy. A minute of silence was observed in his honour. He is survived by his wife, children, siblings and other relatives who attended the valedictory session.
