The delegation of Lawmakers from Plateau State House of Assembly attending a capacity building workshop in the UK, have visited the United Kingdom Parliament during their tour.
The Lawmakers also visited the House of Commons and the House of Lords where they observed parliamentary procedures, legislative debates, and committee operations during the visit.
According to Hon. Daniel Nanbol Listick, member representing Langtang North Central who is among the participants, the visit provided them practical insights into legislative scrutiny, constituency representation, and the parliamentary traditions that underpin British democracy.
“Participants observed a plenary where Prime Minister Keir Starmer presided over the plenary as they also took part in live committee hearings of the committee on women and equity as well as committee on environmental audit.” He said.
The members also had an interactive session with Plateau State Association in the United Kingdom (PSA‑UK), aimed at strengthening ties with the diaspora community, share updates on developments in Plateau State, and explore areas of collaboration particularly in investment, cultural preservation, community development, and continuous diaspora engagement.
In a welcome remark, President of the Plateau State Association in UK, Dr. Solomon Chollom gave brief history of the Association, past interventions and planned activities. He also elaborated their plans on health sector collaboration with King’s Hospital in London.
The PSA UK, expressed their commitment to support peace building and development in Plateau State and hinted their plan to host a unique cultural day.
Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Ajiji Madaki and former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sanda Yakubu, expressed gratitude to the PSA on behalf of the delegation and specifically appreciated the good work they are doing.
They encouraged them to invest in Plateau State and made commitment to assist in any way in the forthcoming cultural day and establishment of Plateau State Cultural House in London.
During the tour, the Lawmakers visited the Supreme Court in London, where they were briefed on the Court’s structure, jurisdiction, and role in upholding the rule of law. They also visited Westminster Abbey which is the site of coronations since 1066 and the resting place of monarchs, poets, and scientists.
Certificates were presented to participants at the end of the workshop.
