Karl Kumm University (KKU), Vom, in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, has announced plans to establish two additional faculties of Medicine and Law to expand its academic programmes and strengthen its contribution to higher education.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Yakubu Jabil, disclosed this while hosting a delegation from the Lightbearer Newspaper, led by the Editor, Mrs. Elizabeth Salami, during a courtesy visit to the institution on Tuesday.
Professor Jabil said the proposed faculties would complement the existing Faculties of Arts, Management and Social Sciences and that of Science and Computing, which currently comprised 14 academic programmes.
He explained that the university was working towards expanding its academic offerings to meet the educational needs of the present generation, adding that the establishment of the new faculties would depend on resource mobilisation and collaboration with the university’s proprietor, the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), and other relevant partners.
According to him, the planned expansion would provide opportunities for students to pursue additional professional courses while advancing the university’s vision of producing knowledgeable and responsible graduates.
The Vice Chancellor described the visit by the Lightbearer Newspaper delegation as timely, stressing the importance of collaboration among institutions established under the same Christian heritage to achieve their respective goals.
He said the university and the newspaper shared a common responsibility to contribute to society through education, information dissemination and the development of younger generations.
Professor Jabil also commended the newspaper for its role in promoting public awareness, noting that the name Lightbearer carried a deeper significance beyond its ordinary meaning.

He explained that light could be understood as a symbol of life, illumination and direction, adding that the newspaper had a responsibility to provide information that would guide society.
The Vice Chancellor said the university was established by COCIN to advance knowledge and mould younger generations who would contribute positively to society, expressing hope that the partnership with Lightbearer Newspaper would continue to grow and produce meaningful results.
Earlier, the Editor of Lightbearer Newspaper, Mrs. Elizabeth Salami, congratulated Professor Jabil on his appointment as Vice Chancellor and prayed for God’s wisdom, favour and support in his administration.
Salami expressed appreciation to the university management for accepting the newspaper’s proposal for a retainership arrangement, describing the development as a demonstration of the institution’s willingness to support the media organisation.
She said the newspaper, which operates both print and online platform, was committed to reporting issues from a Christian perspective while addressing their social, political, economic and spiritual implications.
The editor assured the university of the newspaper’s readiness to provide coverage of its activities, events and programmes, adding that the partnership would be strengthened through effective communication and sustained engagement.
Salami also expressed interest in the proposed establishment of a Mass Communication Department at the university, suggesting that its curriculum should be designed to reflect contemporary developments in the media industry and equip students with practical skills.
She disclosed that Lightbearer Newspaper had provided practical training opportunities for students from Plateau State University and other institutions, expressing willingness to extend similar opportunities to KKU students when the department becomes operational.
The editor further called for increased attention to industrial training programmes, workshops and other capacity-building initiatives that would expose students to practical experience and improve their readiness for the job market.
In his closing remarks, the Registrar of the university, Dr. Benjamin Dachomo, appreciated the Lightbearer Newspaper team for the visit and urged the organisation to assist the institution in communicating its activities, achievements and programmes to a wider audience through its print and online platforms.
The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both organisations to sustain their partnership and explore additional areas of collaboration in support of education, information dissemination and institutional development.
