Plateau Govt. Condemns Kassa Attack, Assured Travelers of Safe Passage

The Plateau State Government has condemned the deadly attack reported in Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, assuring motorists and other road users of safe passage along the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway.

This was captured in a press statement signed today, by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2026, resulted in loss of lives and heightened concerns within the affected community, prompting the state government to call for calm and restraint among residents.

Describing the attack as “deeply regrettable and unacceptable,” the government expressed sympathy to the families of the victims and the Kassa community, while assuring residents that security agencies were working to track down those behind the violence.

According to the government, “security agencies are already taking necessary steps to fish out the perpetrators and prevent further occurrences,” as part of efforts to restore confidence and forestall further attacks in the area.

The government, however, urged residents and grieving communities to channel their concerns peacefully and refrain from blocking the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway, warning that such action could expose innocent travellers to unnecessary danger.

It specifically assured travellers that “the road is clear and open to motorists and other road users,” while urging citizens to continue their lawful activities without fear, remain vigilant and promptly cooperate with security agencies.

The state government said the administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang remained committed to strengthening collaboration with security agencies and communities across Plateau State to improve the security network and build sustainable peace.

It also appealed to traditional, religious and community leaders, alongside other peace-loving citizens, to support efforts to prevent further escalation and maintain calm in Kassa, Barkin Ladi and other vulnerable communities.
