COCIN urges Governments to alleviate Economic Hardship, resettle IDPs

Church of Christ in Nations, (COCIN) has urged governments at all levels to provide more interventions that will alleviate the suffering of Nigerians and to resettle Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) to their ancestral homes. 

This was part of a communiqué issued today at the end of the Church’s 105th General Church Council meeting held at the COCIN Headquarters compound Church in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The communiqué which was signed by the COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo and the General Secretary, Rev. Assoc. Prof. Benjamin Pokol lamented the constant economic inflation cause by high fuel cost and many other Infrastructural and policy factors resulting in severe hardship in the country.

Therefore, the Church urged governments to provide more interventions that will alleviate the suffering and bring succor to Nigerians.

Similarly, the 18 points document which was read by the COCIN President called on government at all levels to revisit the issues affecting displaced persons and farmers as a result of terrorists attacks to enable them to return to their ancestral lands taken over by the Marauders.

While lamenting the incessant killings, human trafficking, rape, kidnapping, and attacks by terrorists in various communities across the nation, the Church called on the governments at all levels to step up their security strategies to curb the menace.

The Church also condemned in a very strong terms the recent attacks in Wase LGA of Plateau State and other communities in Kaduna, Benue, Katsina, Zamfara and South East among others.

It called on the Federal Government and the various Labour Unions to quickly resolve their issues in the best interest of the entire populace.

On the other hand, COCIN commended the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang for his outstanding initiative towards economic and infrastructural development in the state, despite the escalating terrorists attacks in various communities of Mangu, Bokkos, B/ladi, Riyom and other communities.

And on its mission mandate, the Church resolved to extend its mission to Chad Republic and also thanked God for a successful visit to Northern Cameroon and was encouraged to see their displaced members there faring well and holding to their faith in Jesus Christ.

Meanwhile, the Church also called on her members to be vigilant of false teachings in their pursuit of holy living even as they built personal altars and uphold a lifestyle of discipleship.

The Church called on all her members who are in politics to be the light of Christ in their dealings and see the political platform as their unique mission field.
