ECWA Blames FG for Economic Hardship faced by Nigerians

The Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA has blamed the current economic hardship been experience in the country to poor economic policies of the Federal Government.

President of the Church, Rev. Dr. Stephen Baba Panya read the position of the Church in a communiqué signed by him and the Church’s General Secretary, Rev. Ayuba Asheshe at the end of the 71st General Church Council (GCC) meeting held at the ECWA Headquarters International Conference Hall in Jos, Plateau state capital.

According to the Church, the harsh economic policies of the federal government such as the removal of subsidy on petroleum products and the increase in electricity tariff without corresponding arrangement to cushion the effect of such policies have affected the cost of goods and services in the country and makes life difficult for Nigerian citizens.

“…The subsidy removal on petroleum products and an increase in tariff has affected the cost of goods and services in the country. Therefore, the government should put in place appropriate mechanism to reduce the hardship of the citizens.” Read the communiqué.

The Church also observed with concern the biting hunger among citizens as ita result of shortage of food supply due to persistent insecurity that has paralyzed agricultural activities in farming communities and urged the federal and state governments to urgently act decisively by putting in measures that will checkmate the insecurity and ensure rural farmers resume their farming activities.

Speaking on the deplorable condition of infrastructure in Nigeria, the Church noted with concern the deplorable condition of roads, hospitals and schools, and called on both the federal and state governments to fix the facilities for social and physical benefits of the nation.

The Church also decried the increase in global warming, especially the increasing depletion of ozone layer resulting in the increase of temperature in some countries.

“The Council observed that with this attendant increase in global warming, the changes have serious impact on agriculture and food security, depleting resources in very part of the country and by extension the world over and posing a serious food security challenges in the face of the rapidly growing population.”

They called on all citizens and authorities to do everything possible to safeguard the environment and also enjoined her members worldwide to diversify their vocations to ensure sustainability of family needs and not to rely on one source of income.

During the GCC, the Church elected Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat as President following the expiration of the tenure of the Outgoing President, Rev. Dr. Stephen Baba Panya. Other people elected at the 71st GCC were Rev. Dr. Sunday Congo as Assistant General Secretary, Elder Danjuma Haruna as Treasurer and Rev. Prof. Musa Gaiya as Trustee zone C.
