Church Leader Worries Over Resurgence of Idolatry Among Christians.

The COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo has expressed concern over the involvement of Christians in traditional worship practices, subtly blended with Christian faith.

He raised the concern at the ongoing General Church Council meeting of the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) holding at the COCIN Headquarters Compound Church while delivering a speech to the delegates.

“I observe with deep concern what is happening in our communities – the resurgence of traditional worship practices subtly blending with the Christian faith through the revival of cultural festivals.

“While I acknowledge that culture carries values that can enrich community life, I am troubled by the growing trend of syncretism taking root among believers ” Rev. Dr. Mohzo said.

According to him most cultural festivals promoted as harmless cultural expressions, frequently feature masquerades, magical performances, and the display of fetish objects – all of which are historically tied to idol worship and demonic symbolism.

He also used the opportunity to advice individuals, families, and communities to urgently document their ancestral lands and process certificate of occupancy or other recognized land titles to secure ownership. The President said the proposal is meant to safeguard against land grabbing threats posed by terrorists incursions in various parts of the country.

On the state of the nation the clergy said despite Nigeria’s rich natural endowment, the country’s unity, progress and stability is still being threatened. And narrated some of the challenges to include: corruption, lack of accountability, insecurity, joblessness, inflation among others.

He further called on the government to empower security agencies, invest in productive sectors and uphold justice for all.
He however challenged the Church in Nigeria to raise godly leaders and to shape the nation’ s conscience.

While condoling the Plateau state government over the loss of late General Jeremiah Useni and most recent late Professor Sonny Tyoden, the Church leader said they are equally devastated by the brutal and senseless killings of innocent sons and daughters of the state by terrorists between January and May this year.

“As a church we feel this deep pain with you. We share in the sorrow and continue to cry out to God for justice, healing and divine intervention” Rev. Dr. Mohzo added.

The weeklong meeting of leaders of the church from across the country and those overseas attending through zoon, will deliberate on issues that will help in the growth and advancement of the kingdom of God through the church.
