Governor, Plateau State to Improve Security By Recruiting More Agro Rangers.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has disclosed plans by his government to tackle insecurity by recruiting 200 more Agro Rangers in order to improve agriculture in Plateau State.

The Governor said this yesterday while delivering a speech at the ongoing 107th General Church Council meeting of the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) holding at the COCIN Headquarters Compound Church in Jos.

According to him the issue of insecurity in the state is one of the challenges confronting them as a government and they are doing their best to tackle the problem, but every community must take responsibility. He said the attacks are meant to keep the state in poverty, the second challenge next to insecurity.

He said the government is recruiting 200 more persons to add to the 100 Agro rangers in the state. And added that they are reorganizing Operation Rainbow and are recruiting more personnel into the organization to help in fighting insecurity in the state.

“We are dealing with the issue of the economy, as the farming sets in we are concluding arrangements to subsidize fertilizer. We have procured some seeds to give to farmers. We are looking at how to revolutionize agriculture completely.

“For those who farm Irish potato, Bokkos, Mangu and Barkin Ladi , we are
trying to procure new seeds as the seeds being used now are almost 15 years old, they can not produce what we want.” The Governor said.

In the area of livestock he said his government is going to build two ranches in Wase grazing reserve. One for the army and another for the state government. He said it has nothing to do with Ruga as a variety of cows that produce 20 litres of milk per day will be brought in. And the government is also building an abbatoir where they will be slaughtering 500 cows a day.

Governor Mutfwang also informed the Church of the additional new buses that the government has procured to aid citizens in the area of transportation. But however observed with concern the discouraging remarks by some people on the social media about the buses.

Speaking on the unity of the Church he said the church does not belong to any tribe or ethnic group but members of new tribe in Christ and as leaders of the Church they have a responsibility to unite the church through actions and to preserve it’s light and saltiness. He decried the division that has bedeviled the church. “Let’s stop the backbiting and backstabbing” Gov. Mutfwang appealed to the church and Plateau citizens.

The Governor was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel Jatau and other top government officials.

In his speech the COCIN President Rev. Dr. Amos Musa Mohzo expressed the Church’s heartfelt condolences to the Governor, the government and the entire people of Plateau over the recent painful loss of late General Jeremiah Useni and the immediate past Deputy Governor, Prof. Sonni Tyoden.

He equally consoled him over the loss of hundreds of lives of Plateau sons and daughters, who were murdered by terrorists in different parts of the state.

While appreciating the State Government for their effort in addressing the serious security challenges in the State, the COCIN President assured him of the Church’s support in confronting the existential threats that aim to annihilate the people and seize their ancestral heritage.

There were goodwill messages from the former Presidents of the Church: Rev. Prof. Pandang Yamsat, Rev. Prof. Soja Bewarang and Rev. Prof. Dachollom Datiri. Others came from the Agwom Izere, Rev. Isaac Wakili, the Ata Aten of Ganawuri, Da Yakubu Chaimang and the TEKAN General Secretary, Rev. Augustine.
